In a separate letter addressed to the priests of the parishes in Manatee County, Bishop Dewane addressed the recent news that the Manatee County Commission modified its mask mandate to exempt houses of worship saying:

“Face coverings remain required at Masses and Parish gatherings within the Diocese of Venice.  As stated in my letter of June 25, 2020, ‘face coverings are essential because of the guidance that wearing a mask lessens the likelihood of transmission of the virus.’  Further, as a reminder, the masks are worn to protect those around us, rather than the person wearing the mask.”

Bishop Dewane requests that our pastors, administrator and parochial vicars/assisting priests continue to ensure that masks be worn at Mass and Parish functions … so your cooperation with this instruction from the Bishop is very much appreciated by the clergy and staff of St. Joseph Catholic Church.
